Strings that resist corrosive sweat??
Can anyone recommend strings that don't get tarnished as easily from sweat? I know about Elixir, etc but they generally only have coating on the lower 3 strings. I really need the E, B and G strings to resist corrosion. Not at the expense of tone though...
thanks,
brian

Re: Strings that resist corrosive sweat??
I have to say i practice almost every day and gig every weekend and Elixirs are the only strings that last for at least two or three months.
I have tried almost every type of string on the market and all of them lasted only a couple of weeks.
I'am one of those people with very corrosive sweat ,and my hands sweat alot.
But i also wipe down the guitar and the strings right after i finish(everytime!)
just get a small guitar polish rag and wipe down the strings ,make sure you get the under part of the strings youll see how much gunk is in them after you play.
This insures long life and shiny strings aven after severe abuse and long sessions.
I have noticed great inprovement even on my guitar parts that used to get rust all over them with the wipedown method.
I hope you find something that works for you.

Re: Strings that resist corrosive sweat??
Forget Elixirs. I just discovered a product from DR called String Life. It is essentially an coating like that found on Elixirs, except you apply it to your own strings yourself. It is about $8 a bottle and lasts for a lot. It definitely makes an improvement. I use D'Addarios, and they used to blacken on me within two hours of serious playing, especially in the heat when I sweat. Not anymore with String Life.

Out of curiosity, do you guys that have corrosion issues Smoke anything?
My Drummer does and his strings corrode like a mofo..
Me, I don't and I barely wipe my strings down and they hold up quite a while.

Re: Strings that resist corrosive sweat??
I have extremely corrosive fingers, to the point that EB's start to blacken after only 24 hours of use. Their new coated ones are good, but I just broke a string on my guitar that has them, so that's a fail for me. DR's I think lasted the longest out of everything I tried, but I just don't like there stiff feel.

Re: Strings that resist corrosive sweat??
I'll add another vote to the Elixir tally. I've tried just about every brand of strings I could get my hands on at one time or another, and Elixirs are my favourites by a long measure. Nothing else i've tried lasts as long or sounds as good imho.
Rock on!

DR extra Life Strings. Not as expensive as Elixir's but they sound good and lost longer...

Re: Strings that resist corrosive sweat??
as far as cleaning the strings, look for a Blitz Cloth.
http://www.blitzinc.net/c=L8sAaQrUrm...are_Cloth.html
works great. it even gets junk off brand new strings. i put on new strings, then clean em with that before i even play em. it seems similar to that DR stuff, but i think this is a better system. it cleans and coats all in one step.

Re: Strings that resist corrosive sweat??
I've found that Ernie Ball string wipes have added weeks to my string life. I have extremely corrosive sweat, and have eaten the finish off both my Jem and RG570's edge trems. I bought the string wipes in anticipation of My JS1200, and 8 months later, it's still mint. No corrosion, and extended string life to the strings of my choice.
