stripped locking nut.....

I have a UV777BK and the locking nut is stripped on one of the screw holes....
Is there an easy fix for this, or do I have to buy a whole new nut?

just the allen head part? like the top of it? or the actual threads inside the nut? if its the threads inside, u might have to re-tap it... if its just the head, put a set of vicegrips on it and get that thing off... the easiest fix if the threads are stripped imo would be getting another nut... carvin has em, 17 bux for the chrome one, 2 bux more for black finish, 3 bux more for gold..

Talk to Rich he can help you, or at least get you a Ibanez replacement (I mean sell you)!

Re: stripped locking nut.....

Ibanez replacement nuts are stupid expensive. The Carvin may be viable, as long as it's not a top mount like the All Parts 7 nuts, which I suspect it is. Can anybody confirm?

Really? I must have gone to a gullible dealer then - I got a UV replacement nut 2 years ago for £24 ($45 ish) which doesn't seem too excessive to me. Did I get lucky or have prices radically changed?

Re: stripped locking nut.....

I should have qualified that. US List price is stupid expensive. $115. In Chile the List is $35, but Max couldn't get me any.

Re: stripped locking nut.....

wow.....so Carvin has a 7 string nut, and it will work?

The threads in the hole are stripped, I wish it was just the screw threads.....

I have a show on Sunday, I was hoping I could at least find something temporary to make it work.......
Still open to suggestions

Thanks!

Re: stripped locking nut.....

Oh MAN.......

OK, so I found out the hole is NOT stripped..........

I tried screwing in just the nut, without the lock-down thingy (these are technical terms here people :P)
And, whala, it works!.......
BUT.....it doesnt have enough length to get past my big B string (.56) to grab some threads........what do I do now?? grrrr!!

go to lowes and find a screw that matches, thats what i did when i needed to replace them... i cut it down to size, u can cut it a little longer than a normal screw, and u'll be set... the ones at lowes are either too long or too short depending on which u look at, find the too long one and cut it, its perfect...
