Stuck trem arm

Does anyone know any methods of removing a broken piece of whammy bar from an Edge tremolo? It's stuck in there pretty good

Also what does the tiny screw on the back of the tremolo actually do? It's under the hole where you stick in the arm

Do you mean the screw that holds the spring that keeps the bar in?

The screw on the left.
You could remove this screw and the spring and see if the broken bit falls out now, if not you may be able to poke something in the hole and get the piece out that way...

By the way how does the screw and the 'spring' keep the trem bar in? I tried adjusting it whilst the bar was in one piece but it didn't seem to do anything. And the spring on mine looks a lot like a piece of wire meant to act like a washer or something

The spring catches in the notched end of the trem arm, it doesn't adjust how easily the arm swings, just stops it falling out. To adjust tension you have (or should have) 2 nylon bushes (little C shaped bits of plastic) that press against the sides of the arm holder. If the arm is slack you need to replace these or possibly put some cellophane underneath them.
