Sunbursts

I'm trying to get a sunburst finish done on a guitar I'm building. What I'm after is a very smooth transition from the black to the amber. But when I'm mailing people about getting it done and asking for pics of their previous work, what I'm getting back time and again is very prominent black and red lines with almost no fade into the amber. Now I'm starting to think maybe I'm asking for the wrong thing. Is it possible to have a three tone sunburst without the distinct lines? Ive seen plenty of pictures of what I'm after, does the trans red fade with time? Do you need to replace the red with trans brown to get this look?
At this point I'm even thinking about just getting it done in Daphne Blue or Sherwood Green because I can't find anyone who can do a Sunbust like I'm after.
