Sunbursts... - how do they do it?

I have an old guitar that I want to customise for fun.. change the hardware and stuff... and I've been fantasizing about stripping the paint and give it a sunburst finish (maybe a blue-burst.. I haven`t decided on the colors yet).

So how do they do it? *How do you fade the lighter and darker dyes so that the paintbrush strokes dont't show? Must I use spray cans? *Are there any trade secrets I must know?

thanks in advance

Lwi

Sunbursts...

www.universaljems.com

There's a trick or two there that might help you. *Brian's done more experimenting than Edison and DaVinci combined. :-)

Sunbursts...

According Dan Erlewine's Guitar Player's Handbook, Sunbursts are applied in either two or three colors typically. *First the light color is sprayed on the body.. Usually yellow is used first. *Then the dark color is sprayed lightly in the middle and edges. *Finally the dark color is sprayed again on the eges to make it look even deeper.

Sunbursts...

Yup thats the way its done ..... even for three color fades

The example I have on that website just shows you how to do it if your not use to handling a project like this.... With a little practice you can even do a 4 layer job.....
