Swirl question - color wont stay in position

Hi there swirlers,

Quick questions -

1. After i put color in water it flows around nicely, i swirl it and jet i have to wait 1-2 minutes so that color hardens a little bit. But guess what - my color does not stay swirled, it forms into little round drops and ruins all the fun... if i swirl again, colors mix together.

2. If i don't add thinner color hardens very fast, almost in few seconds...

I use quality car enamel paint, also borax is int the tub.
