Question

Swirling a set neck guitar

Anyone have any tips on how to go about doing it? I want to swirl my Iceman. The black finish is cool but a swirl would make it even more eye catching. The hitch is I've only seen folks swirl bolt ons and my iceman is a set neck. Any tips from some of jemsites experienced swirl artists?

Re: Swirling a set neck guitar

Ok so i've decided to wrap the neck and fretboard in plastic wrap so it won't get water damage when it's dipped. it has binding on the neck and body, it's painted on. I'm not sure if I want to preserve the binding with tape on the body or not. Would binding on the neck and not the body look weird? Would a swirl guitar with binding look weird? I'm planning on having just black and red and possibly some purple. The binding is creme colored. Do let me know if I'm on the right track.

IMO, just swirl the TOP and the headstock face.
It's gonna rock!
Save the bindings, back, neck and scale.

That's what I've been leaning towards. Any other tips on how to prep the guitar for swirling? Should I remove the old finish completely or just enough so that the the swirl paint has something to adhere to? This is my first attempt at anything like this so I want as much information going in as possible so I can avoid any costly mistakes.

Swirl the lot, that would be unique.

If you're swirling for the very first time, you should spend some time paint and money on something else before ruining your beloved axe, dude!
Good luck and keep it up!
