TECHIES, NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE
People, I am looking into a project guitar. I want to modify a squire telecaster, I love thick tele necks. But a guitar without a tremolo is no good to me.
Please advise on how (and if it's possible) to install a standard strat trem or even better a
floyd rose
license (incl
locking nut
) on a tele-type body.
Chimp...

Re: TECHIES, NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE
I think your best bet is to get a body from Warmoth that is already routed for a tremolo unit, which they do in Tele's except their tele deluxe model, plus they can make a tele neck with the FR nut cut in it as well...

Re: TECHIES, NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE
While you COULD route a tele for a Floyd or a standard
strat trem
, it'll require you to route the entire trem cavity. Not that great of an idea unless you're extremely confident. Getting a replacement body is probably what you're going to want to get. If getting a
warmoth neck
and body is too expensive you can alway check out a Carvin TL60 which is essentially a 24-fret tele but I think you'll have to call up the Carvin customer service/order desk to ask how much it would cost to get a floyd rose installed.

Re: TECHIES, NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE
if you still want to use your original neck, get a roller nut and
locking tuners
.

Re: TECHIES, NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE
Roller nuts have a tendency to get stuck over time. As seen with the LSR nuts from Fender.
I would rather use a
graphite nut
.
But a roller nut would work, at least for some time.

Re: TECHIES, NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE
if they are kept clean and oiled you shouldn't have to many problems with a LSR. There's also those behind the nut locks as seen on early FR strats, I haven't seen them in a while though, I wonder if they still make them.

Hiya Max
Check out my website -

I did this about a month ago to a Mex Strat for a customer.

I love those, because they allow you to lock the strings and still get an Earvana or otherwise compensated nut for less than the price of a
Buzz Feiten system
. Those are Kahler
locking nuts
.

Re: TECHIES, NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE
Kahler is making a comeback, so you SHOULD be able to find them on their website.
