Tone pot

* Hello there

I've got a bit of a problem with my JEM777.
I hear a trembling/crackling sound when I play
e.g. the G string. I thought that the string action
was too low, but that wasn't the case. Now, I normally
don't touch the tone control but i was just fiddling
with it and noticed that the tr../cra.. noise disappeared.
Can anyone tell that the tone pot is broken or dusty or
is it normal that when you turn the pot down(or is it up?)
this noise is not being picked up and something else
causes this noise.....
Do i make sense and if yes is there someone who can
give me some answers.....

Thanx for atleast reading this :-)

If it's only on the G strings that sounds a little odd.

Clean the pot and see if it's a little loose. If it is tighten it up.

No but it is most annoying on the G string.
And it gets worse the further i go up the neck( the higher the note)

Thanx for replying... will follow your advice

I think I know exactly what you're talking about. I have the same problem on by BFP. I had given up putting any thought into how to solve it.

BTW Does that tr/cr noise get more pronounced as the strings get old. (older than 1 month)

* * Hi , Courjan

Thanx for sharing this with me.
I think it gets a little worse when the string are older.
BTW I put in a new tone pot and the problem is still there.
Maybe putting in a new volume pot will do the trick.
I really don't now. I'm having this problem a long
and you really are getting used to it and play with more
vibrato to cover it up, but sometimes you just want a
simple clean note.......

But I think you know what I mean.
I hope I got your mind set to it too
Maybe you'll find the answers....

Good luck ( to the both of us)

Check to make sure you have a solid connection on the ground wire going to the trem claw. At first it just sounded like a dirty pot but now it almost sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere thats picking up the vibrations of the guitar...

Don't forget to check the output jack connections as well.....

It seems clear that the pups are picking up something else (could it be the springs??). When you play a note on the G string it sounds like you've accidentally picked another string and with the two voices combined, it creates a disonance. Althought the other voice is pretty weak it does interfere and at some notes, by phase cancellation, it kills your sustain.

Here's something I had noticed and could not conceive.

* *I play a harmonic on the 17th fret (or somewhere else)
* *Then I do a slow bar dive and I hear that other voice raise in pitch.
* *Pull up on the bar and it will go down in pitch.

??

Take cotton balls and pull them apart.

Stuff the cotton down the barrel of the springs to eliminate that resonance your hearing...

Might want to use a toothpick..

That sounds more like your amp to me. I had a bad tube in an old tube amp and it did the exact same thing, you'd hear 2 notes, and bending it would create a sypathetic note bending the other way. I loved it, I miss that amp

*The cotton thing didn't do the job, unfortunately.
But just thinking.. could it possibly be the intonation.
If that's the case...than i've got a hell of a job ahead of me
