Trem height / neck angle question

Ive read almost all of the setup articles and im a little bit puzzled as to what to do with my neck angle. going off of the setup articles it says to do this:

Bridge sits too low into the body when trying to get good action - increase the neck angle by shimming the headstock side of the neck joint. This allows you to raise the bridge and lower the action simultaneously. Reattach the neck and raise the bridge to test

my pivot posts ( locking, with a regular ibanez edge ) are screwed all the way down. my action is still fairly high. but wont adding a shim to the neck side of the pocket raise the nut and also the action along the entire neck ? i thought id ask just to get a yay or nay before i take it apart and give it a shot. the guitar is a jem ive been putting together from different pieces i find on the bay. thanks in advance for the help

Re: Trem height / neck angle question

I would rather shim the body side of the neck, not the headstock side, that seems totally wrong to me because the action would then be too high at the top of the neck. I can't stand shims anyway, but yes, it should help you out if you have the bridge sitting too deep. I would shim the entire thing, though, not just one side of the neck pocket. A thin piece of wooden veneer covering the whole inside of the neck pocket would raise the whole neck up.

Re: Trem height / neck angle question

thanks for the input. shimming the entire pocket was what i had in mind to begin with. the angle looks correct, as the distance from the nut increases so does the action, it just seems to be too deep into the pocket. ill definately give the veneer a shot. thanks again

I used a piece of credit card plastic between the two screws nearest the body on my universe and it was spot on.

Just a tip. Now actions low and pull up on bar is still good!

I shimmed on the body side using normal folded A4 paper. Action's very low and i like it!

notice the slant

Re: Trem height / neck angle question

Does the JEM Neck (or Fretboard) run in line with the body, or is it tilted, as can be seen on the JEM Blueprint - D=18.9 at deep heel and D=19.4 at end of heel - ?

Anyone who knows the actual angle?

Not certain, but the number "2 degrees" comes to mind.
