Trem Help

Alright, I had my a set of 12-56s on my guitar, and they were getting old, so I decided to get new strings. My friend also called that day as was all "Lets start a band nigjew and use Drop D." So, I bought strings today, figured 10-52s would be light enough for Drop D, but boy...

As I began to string my guitar, the dull light shined upon my flamed Turqoise burst finish, making it look ever so radiant. I started to loosen the strings (starting with the low E, and as I loosened it, 3 of the strings broke, and I was left with two strings on. The string tension had become so great because the trem had recessed, that I had to loosen those too, before they snapped.

Then, I tried to start again.

E, e, A, B, D, G, to try and raise the trem evenly.

But then, once I had gotten the strings on and tried to tune, things starting sucking, like an Oreck XL (The ones that can pick up the bowling balls). I can't tune up any higher than B before the string tension gets uber hella tight. So I loosened the trem to try and give it a little slack, and tried again. Same problem. Now I've got my guitar in B standard, with the trem at like a 35 degree angle, and the springs about 2 inches from being flush from the wood.

As far as I remember B standard =/= Drop D.

Help.

Re: Trem Help

Yeah, I know how to set it up, thanks. But, there shouldn't be this much tension, this low a tuning, with this light of strings.

No offense but I'd say there's one or two things you might have overlooked.

Re: Trem Help

Springs are like they were when I bought it

Dee: care to help then?
