Trem pitting - ... will it get worse

If a trem has some minor (very minor) pitting probably because some guy did not wipe down the trem after playing... if I start taking care of it now, does it stop getting worse, or does it just continue to get more pitted even if I really wipe it down and stuff?

Trem pitting

I have found that the pitting can be pretty much stopped with regular care. My '88 FP has zero pitting, and is played regularly. :mc:

Trem pitting

Would using a bit of car wax help prevent the pitting from starting in the first place?

Trem pitting

I am thinking about using a kind of silver/gold cleaner liquid on my 7vwh, but I must first try it on somethin less valuable (read - my girlfriend's silver dishes). Maybe someone used it before ?

Trem pitting

I would be careful with metal cleaners. Some are pretty strong, and may end up taking the finish off  The plating method and thickness used by Ibanez isn't exactly the best

Trem pitting

Iain.. your FP has zero pitting because you take care of it. But I just bought a used UV777BK that I noticed the slightest bit of pitting (just a bump or two). If I took care of it now, will it stop the pitting or is like a disease that will continue to spread?

Trem pitting

Hopefully not, but unfortunately it might keep pitting. If you keep it clean then you have done all you can to help. There are factors beyond our control such as climate and the randomness of metal. This is just something the finish is subject to. Enjoy... glen
