Trem posts lean toward neck??
Hi,
I have a new 2003 Jem 7vwh (I think the first one set up by Rich).
My first double locking trem system since the early 80s!
I just installed a pair of old style trem posts with set screws.
These posts, combined with the little screws that Rich provides to put in the bottom of the inserts, let me adjust the bridge height AND lock the posts the "old" way.
My concern is that both the original posts and the new "old style" posts lean a little in the direction of the neck when under the load of the strings and springs.
The inserts seem to be seated well in the body, but I am just checking if this is normal or do I have a problem brewing.
Is this something that I should be worried about?
Thanks,
Bryon

If there's alot of slop between the threads they can have that illusion [it should be very minute], there's no way the inserts are loose which is the only real worry there. Did you use a 4mm wrench to really lock the threads together after "locking" the set screws?

Yes, I gave them another small torque with the 4mm, they are really tight.
(BTW-There is an amazing difference in tuning stability with your little insert screws installed.
Everyone should do this!!)
It is very minute, but noticable. I wasn't going to worry too much about it, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here to see if anyone has had a problem.
Thanks Lots,
Bryon

i noticed that on some of my pre-2003 Ibanezes. i dont know if it's an illusion, but it really seems like the posts lean toward the neck.
but i dont care as long as they work great.
and they do.

Did you lock up the original studs before doing the 2le2 mod? That VWH had really stable return as it was, I was plesantly surprised! But the sets made it even a bit more stable??

Yes....
locked with both sets of posts.
Before I put in your mod, it would hold very well for half a set or so and then something would move and I would have to do a couple of silent dives and re-tune.
It never went really far out, but It would bug me enough to re adjust it.
It was fine to deal with, but now (with the mod) it never changes!!
Thanks for the "miracle screws"

OK you're confusing me, but that's too easy to do
So locked with the set screws only and locked with the 2le2b's show no difference in stability, just the flexibility that's missing without the "miracle screws"? And before they were locked up it would be ok for awhile but then need a little tweaking?

Exactly!!
the new posts just make it easier to adjust.....same stability.
I'm still getting used to the guitar, so I'm playing with
truss rod
and bridge hieght to try different combos.
Once I added the "miracle screws" it became a real pain to change bridge height.
Now with the old style posts, everything is right with my world.

Ditto, for tweakability nothing beats the 2LE2B's, it's just nice to have a "cheap fix" that preforms just as well, right up until you want to tweak with it
