Trem Question

just recently i was in the market for a really good guitar and was pretty much set on buying a les paul but had a JEM in the back off my mind because a friend recomended one, went to the shop to buy my les paul and when i got there there was a JEM7VSBL sat next to it, i had a quick look then whent back to the les paul , it played very nice but when i inspected it closly i noticed that the build quality was pretty shat, file marks all over finger board wobbly inlay and other imperfections in the finish, there were two other les pauls in the shop and they had the same build quality which was poor to say the least especially for the money. then i thought why not give the JEM a go so i did and 2 minutes later i bought it , it beat the gibbo hands down in every respect.

any way to get to the point after all this waffle is , I very rarely use the trem so i want to get trem as stable and as siff as pos so it does not flutter, so i can rest my hand on bridge without it going sharp and does not go out of tune when you bend , basicly get it as close to a fixed bridge as possible but still be able to use it occasionally (no blocking), i was thinking about either puting five springs on the trem or fitting some sort of tremsetter. any advise would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

i wouldn't block it...yet. it's a great trem, and if set up properly, it won't go out of tune with usage. why don't you play it this way for a while, and you'll see that very soon you'll get used to it. and if you still don't wan't a floating bridge after that period, you can block it if you want.
but like i said, i wouldn't do it

trem

I don,t want to block it as i would still like to use it occasionally i jus want it a bit stiffer and more stable and to have no flutter when you pick the treble strings

like you said if thats what you want to do add springs, or a tremsetter if you have the extra money around. Personally I have one in a korean rg I put a Real Floyd in and its great for alot of unison bends and things. Just remember a tremsetter from hipshot requires that you drill three holes in the body (of course they are in the trem route and can be hidden quite easily and or touched up. Do you pull up on the bar? If you dont I would try buying one of those block kit thingys that came with the jem 10s. It lets you dive the trem only though. but that would definitely work just as well

On one of my guitars I putted an extra spring on the tremlo. The strings fluttered much less, also, I think it will be less sensitive if you rest your hand on it. I had 4 springs in it... try 5 and it will be pretty stiff I think.
A spring costs nothing... you can try it anyway and you don't have to drill extra holes or whatever!
