Trem to Hardtail - by projecguitar - question!

Im talking about this one: http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/tht1.htm

Anyone tried it? if so... anyone took better pics?

i dunno, i dont quite understand it, i get the routing, but i get lost with the shaping of the blocks: "Using a pencil you can now mark the area you need to cut and shape the block down to from the back side"

From what i understood, the two blocks are flat, as big as each rout, and as deep as half the body... but then, since the routes are different, i dont really follow what it is that he shapes with the pencil...

If anyone has tried this id like to hear about it, also, the Paul Gilbert way (Telesavalas), where it seems the block doesnt fit right at all... and it almost looks like it could be reversed back to stock...

Re: Trem to Hardtail - by projecguitar - question!

I have every intention of trying this project myself at some point, but I noticed the exact same issue with the instructions. I can't see how you'd get the pencil in from the opposite side of the block far enough to fully trace the opening. The fact is, though, that it should work just as well to carefully measure the size of the openings, transfer those measurements to the blocks of wood and just cut them a bit large.

Re: Trem to Hardtail - by projecguitar - question!

I think it goes like this, you have 3 pieces of wood that're needed to be glued:
- route the top part of your recessed cavity so that it'd just be a squared cavity
- measure the "middle" part of the cavity for its thickness
- take a piece of wood and roughly place it on the top cavity
- trace using a pencil, now you'll have the middle part to be glued
- place the block that you had saw/route by the pencil trace on the "middle" part of the cavity and glue when you're happy with its position
- now, the easy part, you have to glue on 2 blocks of wood for the front (bridge) and the back (springs etc.)
- just measure the thickness and the height/base and you're set
