Tremolo springs

So what's the story re springs for the original Edge tremolo? The RG 570 I'm in the process of fixing up had three fairly weak springs in it, which look to be Fender Stratocaster style springs.

The springs I have in my Gotoh FR are shorter and stronger: I suspect these are what I need in the Edge as well, because putting three of these in the Edge seemed to provide for the correct tension. The weaker, longer springs that were in there weren't providing enough tension, even with the claw just about adjusted to the max.

Am I correct? Are the springs required for proper Edge set-up different to the Fender Stratocaster springs? Or should Stratocaster springs work well if they are good quality and new?

Obviously I need new springs, I'm just trying to figure out what I should be buying.

Re: Tremolo springs

+ 1. I too need new springs for my Edge trem circa 1990. I see on the Ibanezrules site they have two different sizes 52mm and 47mm. Which ones should I get?

Re: Tremolo springs

Edge/Lo Pro - 52's for .009 and .010, 47 for higher gauges, and probably heavy bottom 010's, especially 7 strings.

Edge Pro - 52's will probably handle .011's

Re: Tremolo springs

I'm running 11-54 (or 52 haven't decided yet) tuned to C#. Based on your reply Rich, I should go for the 47mm springs? Just want to confirm. Thanks for your advice.
