they basically help your trem returning to point zero. this is a Fender or Hipshot Tremsetter, easy to find in stores.
while the Ibanez Backstops also keeps your tuning in case of string break, and it also prevents from detuning when you rest your palm on the bridge.
hard to find, not easy to install, but very useful.

They will also keep your bent double stops in tune, kill flutter, keep tuning close with a broken string, and make your guitar feel very stiff to play.

I've learned from 20 years of playing Floyds to drop the heel of my palm on the bridge and apply a little back pressure when playing double stops. It helps keep the string tension balanced and the double stops ring almost true.

I keep my right hand in a normal position - above the strings with only my arm touching the body - when playing single notes and chords.

Another thing I've noticed: Since I've been playing Floyds 99% of the time for the past 20 years, when ever I pick up a Les Paul or Hardtail guitar, for the first 10 minutes or so, I tend to over-bend single note runs. Sometimes as much as a half step.

I bought a Fender hipshot for my rg550. It didnt really seem to make much difference so I ended up taking it off... I had some extra springs from a couple of old ESP strats laying around and on a whim I Switched to them and that did they job...I dont know what the length of the esp springs are ...guess i could measure em...

...at least the nice plastic box it came in came in handy (I keep my hex wrenches, string winder, and other assorted guitar tools in it)
