truss hell

Sounds like either there is no tention on it or the lock on the end has broken free.

If it's the first just turn it till there is minimal tention....

truss hell

If the lock has broken free from the end of the truss rod itself then you wouldn't be able to adjust the bow in the neck what so ever.

Just adding minimal tension to the rod should tighten it enough so that it doesn't rattle when no neck adjustment is needed but if the anchor is broken off the only way to fix it is to pull the fret board and replace the truss rod. There are many different manufactures and if you need help finding one just let me know.

If your interested in doing this yourself look up Kevan's tutorial on how to remove a fret board on my site.

Oh and just for kicks he even wrote one on how to put it back on =o)

truss hell

If you do eventually remove the fretboard and truss...

Be sure to wrap the truss rod on felt or velvet.... *This will make sure that the truss never makes noise again...

just a little tip...

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for some help cos i seem to have the same problem as Ariomia did: there's an annoying rattling/vibrating noise when i gently tap the back of the neck of my JS1000. It's really driving me nuts!

I have no idea why the problem seems to have developed all of a sudden; i did not change the setup on my JS at all and i've had it professionally set up before. I did not accidentally knock it either and have been using it for nearly 2 years.

could the truss rod be broken? I really hope not. Or is the truss rod too loose? Incidentally, my neck has nearly no relief and is very straight. So the truss rod should be quite tight. I've never heard of this happening before.

I am in quite a dilemma and would appreciate any help from anyone. Thanks!

Hi nuno,

sorry, but I don't really get what you mean. From the posts above, it means I should first determine if the truss rod has broken free from its anchor right? so I do that by tightening the truss rod a little to see if that stops the rattling? what does adding "minimal tension" mean?

so if it is broken, i'm pretty much screwed eh....? sigh....

thanks

sorry chemical,
my post was referred to Ibanez guys, which i think they put their noses here around sometimes.

i meant that wouldn't be bad to put something wrapped around the truss-rod to keep it from noises, in time...

If you're that worried about it try adjusting the truss. If it adjusts, no problem.

Also be very sure that it IS the truss rod who is actually rattling.. before attempting to remove the fretboard etc...
A second opinion of a guitar tech is recommended.

Like Brian said, if it is broken, you wouldn't be ablo to adjust the bow in the neck, and you will feel less to no tension when adjusting the nut.

Anyway, I hope you can solve the problem.

Cheers,
Joten

I think I have a similar problem in my rg 550...It is a little difficult to explain in my frenchy/spanish-English;anyway...
When I use the trem( up or down), I can "feel"a subtle "clank" in the neck, it is not an audible noise, but I can feel it in my fretting hand.
I allready check the screws in the neck joint , and the nut scews and the truss road, all seems to be in order, but the " clank" is there...
Theres no cracks, the guitar stays in tune since...well, I don't remember...
So, wat should I do...ignore it?

it's cool, nuno! any help is good....

merelitas, is this 'clank' sound a metallic rattling and the sound of wood creaking?? if it bothers you, you should check it out of course!

ghesqi J,
I brought my guitar to a tech today since it has a few other problems i can't handle. I have a broken screw on the back of the headstock on the machine head. apparently it broke months ago and i never noticed!! so half the screw is still in the wood...
hopefully the tech will fix it all and i'll be playing within a week....
thanks to all!
