Trying to do a custom JEM/RG.

It's time for another neverending project =)

I just got rid of my old Ibanez/Jackson -guitar. Sold it and added just a few € and got myself an RG body, Lo-Pro Edge and all the hardware for the neck. I have a DiMarzio Evo neck pup, as well.

Here's pics of the parts:
http://ameba.lpt.fi/~vilkmati/Sontaa/Osat/

I'll go and sand the body and swirl it. Yepp, by myself. Done some experimenting on swirling with a Behringer pedal already :-p
The colours for the swirl will be black and different shades of blue.

I'll get a neck from ET guitars. Probably a 77BFP style. Maple with blue vine. Besides that I need to get the rest of the electronics. Guess I'll get a Breed or Evo on the bridge and some cheap one for the middle because I never use middle pup.

How does this all sound? Stupid? =)

Before you do the swirl, you need to do some routing to use the Lopro in that body as it is cut for a TRS bridge. You should pull the old studs and install locking Edge studs and inserts(stud spacing should be the same but you need to open the holes to 11mm).

Re: Trying to do a custom JEM/RG.

Well, I guess that's done already by the previous owner because it's a perfect fit with the Edge, studs and inserts. At least there's no problems inserting the Edge on it's place. The previous owner had the whole guitar set up together. I just didn't want the neck/pickups.

Re: Trying to do a custom JEM/RG.

id say

now dont be scared, this is only if u dont wana use a middle at all

take epoxy and fill in the middle 9/10 full

let dry, and drill some 1.4 holes around the epoxy, and then lay bondo into it , and if u want it to match the tone of the wood(like the surface reonance of the body) use more hardener and less bondo for a hard surface, or use more bondo and less hardener, but u have to either leave it in the sun to cure properly or uv lights

anyways, use a orbital and sand it down just like body work

thus paint, and swirl and a clean look, you wont be able to tell the difference, u might need to use some glaze depending on how well the bondo is looking sometimes its very porus

That sounds cool, but I'll put some pup there in the middle, because I think it does look better that way

Re: Trying to do a custom JEM/RG.

oh thats sick, i thought u meant like u dont really ever use it, i just use coil tap then take a coil from each front and back, and roll the volume down a little and turn the tone up, i get a good mid pup sound

but that kewl, im a fan of doing that kind of stuff to guitars bc, trust me it doesnt worsen the tone, just give it some charachter

lol

Here's the proof. Fits in well enough, eh?

Strange, but the Cruiser is one of my favorite pup sounds! It just has warmth and character that most single coils don't have and versitility when used in combination with various humbuckers... Even if you rarely use it, stick something in there that adds dimension and tone for when you DO decide to use it. Just my opinion anyway...

Re: Trying to do a custom JEM/RG.

Ad, that is a very tight fit! If you have the tools and experience in woodworking you should consider making that route deeper. It may fit on sides and back but you probably won't have much Pull up room

Re: Trying to do a custom JEM/RG.

Well, there could be a bit more space in there but there's still some room for pulling up. Whenever I need to pull up a lot, which is very rare, I'll grab my 77FP. Wouldn't even need much to go up so I guess I'll leave it that way.
