Tubes... Amps... Deals...

Hi,

Got a few questions if anyone would like to make any suggestions.

I used to crank a Marshall JMP-1 preamp into a Peavey Basic 50 Bass head, as a quasi-dummy load/attenuator for the preamp. I ran the 'preamp out/power amp in' to a power amp, this sounded awesome, but now as I use the Peavy Basic 50 head alone or with another non-cranked preamp, I notice that there is a dramatic loss of volume. I know this wasnt smart to do, but it was a cheap head, and I like to experiment, plus it sounded great. I was wondering since I most likely overloaded the input and possibly blew something, is there a quick fix I can perform with a certain component and soldering iron?

2nd question would be: does anyone know any reasonable, reliable, tube amp techs in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area?

And does anyone have a link to a good reasonable source to buy tubes from online besides the usual musiciansfreind.

What are the clearest sounding most 'Middy' preamp tubes in your opinion(s)?

Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks

clean preamp tubes: any 12at7 or 5751 will replace a 12ax7 and have less gain and more headroom. i personally liked EH 12ax7's for high gain stuff.
kirk is right about thetubestore.com. i bought all of my tubes from them. their CS is right up there with rich harris.

Yeah I was looking at the Electro Harmonix Pre- tubes...

What about the best 6L6's and EL34's for "cranking" open wide for high gain stuff?

Also: someone must know what I did to that bass head, or have an idea. Any help would be great.

Thanks

I've understood Triple-S to be a good and well-known repair facility in NJ. I'm not sure right now where exactly in NJ they are located.

I guess I'll look Triple-S up... I've never heard of them.

Anybody know what I did to that Peavey Basic 50 head by cranking a JMP-1 preamp into it? Blew the input maybe? Anybody?
