Re: tuner for intonation

I got a BOSS TU80, and it works but I don't really think they are the best for intonation. Everything I've read says a strobe tuner is the most accurate and best for intonation. I recently bought a "Peterson Strobe" tuner and it makes a big difference. I'm still new to it but I've noticed right away how much more accurate it is than any other tuner I have. Though they aren't cheap, as I paid $219 for it. I think I paid around $50 for the BOSS. Maybe you can find a inexpensive strobe in ****. Good luck.

Re: tuner for intonation

with a floyd equipped guitar especialy your best best is a strobe... others can get "close" but it depends on if you really want to be in tune

Re: tuner for intonation

I wish I owned a Peterson strobe tuner. Too rich for my blood though.

Korg makes a tuner designed for techs/luthiers to do the Buzz Feiten mod and is significantly cheaper than a Peterson strobe. I mean if it's good enough to Feitenize a guitar, it's accurate enough for me. (It's what I use in my shop to intonate guitars)

Re: tuner for intonation

yes, but most of the "feitenizing" comes from the off tuning which involves each string to be a cent or few off.... much of this effect can be done by simply tuning to ear after its been tuned. intonation is a little more difficult.

Re: tuner for intonation

The Korg I use in my shop is the Korg DT7(at least I think that's the model #).

As for Feitenizing, it's actually a combination of changing string length(shifting the nut) and reintonating the bridge so it's actually a few cents off. There are only a handful of tuners capable of being accurate to the cent enough to feitenize a guitar. For an "accurate" tuner, aside from a Peterson tuner, the next best thing is the Korg DT7.

Note: feitenizing was only used as an example to indicate how accurate the tuner was.

Personally, I tune guitar that are not feitenized a little sharp on the highs and a little flat on the lows for a similar effect to feitenizing(something I learned from Eric Johnson before I discovered feitenizing).
