Re: Two new builds a 6 & an 8
Thanks for your information on how to bend the top. I used a similar technique for bending my spruce top on my new frankenRG, but I was unsure how to do it with a thicker maple top. Great info, thanks a lot!!!
Just to clarify, you didn't use steam, only water? You mentioned you wet the bend with water and kept it wet. How much water? Spray bottle? Only the outer surface??? How thick is the top, looks at least 1/4"? What glue did you use?
Thanks SO much!!!

Andrew, just water no steam. Wet rag, wipe it over the top on the bend & gave it another wipe each time I tightened the clamps & glued up with titebond 1. The 6 string was a little thicker than the 8string about 8mm - 5/16

Re: Two new builds a 6 & an 8
great, thanks so much for the information. I"m a real fan of your work!!!
Of course now that I look back at the thread I can see the bottle of titebond
Typical.
I am inspired, so for my next frankenRG project I will use curly maple instead of spruce... Wicked cool!
Please continue to post!

np, everything I've tried in building these last couple of years has been info from projectguitar.com
Quick route this afternoon & fitted edge locking studs. Low strings arrived so did a test fit & went in the saddle no prob, I don't know why, but knowing nothing about 7 or 8 strings I was expecting some massive cable to come through the post then having to do some fettling to the saddle & nut.

Mmm, they're some nice big looking frets. The fretwire I got for my RG build was advertised as jumbo but its nowhere near jumbo size. I'm a bit annoyed at that.

Re: Two new builds a 6 & an 8
did some dyeing, one black one brown
sandback
Ash dyed black, Poplar dyed mixture
Then a butterfly outside the Ibanez factory flapped it wings and 6000miles away a sudden gust of wind blew the black one over onto the brown one & they tumbled down 4 brick steps onto a concreate and stone floor... so I'm over it.... loads of dents & dings & chips.
quick shot of both, got sealer on the quilt, waiting for some 2k to come in the post
