Used Guitar Primer

I just loaded a new section on my site that lets you watch me take what typically comes in the door and turn it into something the pickiest collector would be happy with. From cleaning to setup, it's pretty long but full of tips and tricks. You seasoned pros will find it boring but those less experienced could learn alot. There's about 70 pictures to illustrate most of the steps and getting it organized gave me plenty of headaches, much less the lack of sleep the last 3 days I hope some of you find it helpfull and would apreciate your feedback.

Brian, consider this my contribution to your projects page. Link directly to the site or copy if you wish.

Great, thanks guys! I'm really surprised some of you read it as far as you did. I proof read it this morning (before I finally got to bed) and it was pretty long and drawn out. Cudos to anybody that makes it all the way through! I'll probably try to rearange it so that I can link to a page to cover a topic, I gave up trying to organize it all first and figured I could add to it over time. If it helps even one of you it was worth it. It was a buttload of work, I don't know how Glen does it, this site is just huge!

You know I was going to add that and about 20 other things popped into mind and I never got it done. Almost all maple boards are clearcoated so cleaning maple with steel wool will remove (or at least thin out and scratch up) any clearcoat that's left. Most guys say to use naptha (lighter fluid) to clean the maple inself without damaging the clear, but sometimes the stains will be deep enough only steel wool will get them out. This will be added over time. If you're just cleaning with elbow grease and a cloth then it's the same as rosewood, rub till clean.

Great pages with lots of good tips. I will definetly be using some of the tips you gave here.

A little dissappointed that we didn't get to see how you use the sawzall

Only thing I can critisize is that there is one pic on page 4 that didn't show up. Great job!

I read the entire thing and it is fantastic. *The pictures really look great and help immensely. *You've done a superb job of not overloading the text. *Nice, concise; you are the MAN!!! *I will be visiting often. -Andy

Rich,

Very nice work. I like the clamp idea. Another interesting topic would be cleaning the back of the neck or better yet sanding down and re-oiling a neck (for those extremely worn necks).

Julio - Still?!?! Do they deliver Christmas presents in February?! Should never take this long, I'd bet they're lost.

Rick, I've never cleaned the back of a neck besides just wiping it clean. They all have clear or oil on them except for the 10th. But I would never sand the clear or old oil off to redo it. What's original is original and I always leave them that way.
