Using chemical to strip paint

yup, i am using a cougar paint stripper to try and remove the paint on my s470dxqm, but it doesnt work at all, i even leave a thick layer of paint stripper on it for a night! it doesnt work, it work well for my yamaha pac although . . .

what did ibanez use for transparent finish? I have one a charcoal brown, transparent finish, did ibanez use some acrylic or something? this is insane, i manage to side to bare wood. It really take alot of effort i totally got no more strength to **** anymore. It drive me crazy just by imagine sanding the body by hand! i cant really use my mini sanding machine since it got some insane contour . . . yeah any idea? or did i really bought a crappy weak paint stripper? anybody tried stripping ibanez transaparent finish?

Look for something that can strip polyurethane. Not all paint strippers can handle polyurethane very well. According to Jim Donahue, factory Ibanez finishes that needed to be stripped were usually done using a heat gun. (just be careful)

Re: Using chemical to strip paint

I had to use a heat gun on my old RG. The finish was just too tough to remove with anything else, but there were quite a few burns to be sanded out later.

There is a paint stripping product out there that can do it, though. I forgot the name of it but I'll hopefully remember soon.

You can also try covering with paint stripper and leaving it in a plastic bag for a few days. That'll give it some time to work without drying out. But yeah I would use a heat gun myself.

Re: Using chemical to strip paint

You need aircraft stripper and you need to leave it on overnight. "Regular" paint stripper wont even dent catalyzed polyurethane.
