UV777 Locknut Stripped off

Hi guys, My Lock nut for UV777 internal screw thread got stripped off on the number 7 and 6 strings, can I do a repair on it? or do I have to get a new set of locking nuts.

Anyone can recommend me any online shops that carries original Ibanez parts for international order using Credit cards.
I know Rich got 1 but he don't accept Credit Cards under US$500, unless he can help again ofcourse

Just take a rotary tool with a cutting wheel attachment, cut slots in the screws, then use a flathead screwdriver to remove them. Should suffice for a few string changes, or at least until you can replace them.

Alternatively, you could always take one of your allen keys, stick it in the screw, solder it in place, then back it out and throw it away.

Why so happy about stripping your lock nut?

I'd sell you one but they're expensive. You can repair the thread with a M3 Helicoil kit. Call around and I'd have no doubt you could find a mechanic or machine shop that would do it for $20 or less.

Re: UV777 Locknut Stripped off

Thks Rich, i try and get a M3 Thread cutter from my work place, if it does not work than i email u for the 2TL1UV48C Top locklll, the UV777 uses 2TL1H48C but u are out of stock for it, I think the 2TL1UV48C should be able to fit right in. I know its a bit expensive but my dealer too charge me a bomb and it can takes few mths to order 1, rather than I give him the deal might as well i give business to fellow Jemsite, furthermore u help me once and provide a good service so trusted u
In my 20 years of playing the guitar so far I manage to stripped of 4 locknuts, 2 Floyd type and 2 Ibanez type. Floyd is easy to get and cheaper but Ibanez parts is pretty difficult and expensive. UK site is even more expensive and nothing in e--y.

Actually I'm not happy about stipping my Nut, but I put up the post with a smily.

Helicoil kit, not thread cutter.

That is the correct US part number for the UV, they're in stock.

Re: UV777 Locknut Stripped off

The thing is, i don't usually overtighten it, it's just my luck that the thing strip off. Another thing is that the lock pad is not even because it locks both gauges 54 and 42 and I felt that it stresses up the screw thread inside.

Oh I'm sorry Rich I got the wrong idea, Helicoil kit. No wonder it is still in M3 and not M4, because to re tapped the damn thing I got to go with M4. Ok I'll try and source the Helicoil kit thing.

The kit is $40. Why bother for a 1 time use, which is why I said find a business that would have it to do it for you.

Or, you can always go with a 2mm longer bolt. That's why it strips is because it's screwing into so few threads.

Re: UV777 Locknut Stripped off

Oh ya ic, i'll try a longer bolt, because without the pad i can screw it in. Thks for the idea never thought of that. I ask a few workshops here and it's bloody expensive to do for only 1 thread because they only do it in bulk, sux man.
I think I have buy a longer bolt for all my locknut, Rich ur right, the bolt only screw in a few threads, no wonder it strips so damn fast.

Re: UV777 Locknut Stripped off

The big problem there is you need a half thread bolt. Good luck fining those.

Re: UV777 Locknut Stripped off

Not a problem if i can remove those 2 threads on top of the pad by using needle round file or a small drill bit, but i have not source out the screws yet as im busy working overtime this 1 week.

Anyway if all fails, I'll get back to u to order 1

Re: UV777 Locknut Stripped off

All of the sources I tried to get the original Ibanez Lock nuts are either difficult, can't help out, no credit cards allowed or take mths to order 1.

So what I did was, I gamble and bought a Floyd Rose 43mm 7 string Lock nut from Warmoth, Super fast in delivery took only 4 days to reach my country and the price, super amazing cheap only US$32 using Credit Card payment. Not to make my delivery a waste I top it up with a Fender LSR Roller nut and a pair of roller string guide for my Fender Stratocaster.

The Floyd nut design is good it can go both ways of mounting. If your guitar is top screw mount they provide the top screws and the Floyd nut allows both ways either thru the neck from below or Top mount.
Install it yesterday and WooHooo! , the damn thing work on my Ibanez UV777. Have to remove the original copper shim and mount it directly to the wood because the nut a bit tad Higher. So anyone here can have a Floyd option if original Ibanez parts are not easily accessible.

Thanks everyone for replying, problem solve for at least the next... don't know when?

Re: UV777 Locknut Stripped off

The big question is how is the radius match to the frets?

Re: UV777 Locknut Stripped off

I dont really measure it, but by eyeball it's radius is almost the same as the original lock, only thing is, it's a bit tad higher so I remove the copper shim originally install on the guitar.

Well to sum it up the thing lock the string well and intonation is not a problem, no buzzing on the 1st fret.
