It doesn't make that big a difference. THey probably wanted just one version to put in trem and non trem models. Even Dimarzios f-spaced don't line up perfectly. The only ones that I've seen that are wide enough are Duncans.

I wouldn't bother, I've tried both normal and F-spaced pups, in the same guitar with a v-meter (was really bored one night) and even using a padded penny to drop on the string (from the exact same height to remove any picking variables) could see NO DIFFERENCE between the two.

The magnetic field stretches out pretty far from the center of the slug and the string is totally engulfed in it, if you're not afraid of getting splinters, and a LOT of work cleaning up after, you can see this with metal splinters picked up with the pup, but I don't advise this.

To F-Space or not to F-Space, for me at least, is an either/or situation. No improvement sonically, esthetically they look cleaner to me, but again, it's about the sound, not the looks, right?

You hit the nail right on the head - F-spacing is completely aesthetic. There is no sonic difference between the two, anyone who "hears" one is experiencing the magic feather effect. LOL.
