Very sticky neck

hello

I was wondering what is the best way to make a neck not sticky

Its kinda sticky already but when I play and sweat its like glue my thumb rubs off the neck like a banger of a car

I dont want to sand it 1. it has a gloss finish on it 2. The neck is quite thin laready so I dont want to sand it

I cleaned it thoroughly already

Any solutions?

Re: Very sticky neck

i know you don't want to sand... but my suggestion is still get a little fine sanding sponge, the spongeness will conform to the neck shape to give an even sand and you only need to give it a really quick go which will only remove the layer of dirt and grease, it'll only sand the clear coat the tiniest amount.

just do it every now and then when it needs a clean and i doubt you'll ever sand all the way through the clear coat..
i've used it many times, gives a great feel!

only thing is if the neck has a thick GLOSS finish(YUK feeling imo anyway!) then expect it to become a matte finish.

think about when you actually want to sand something by hand, it takes a LOT of work just to get through millimeters on a block of wood, doing a little fine sand brushover everynow and then is gonna take a loooooong time to make any noticable change in shape IMO

Re: Very sticky neck

Put some furniture polish (like pledge) on it. It's going to make the finish really slick so you won't have to deal with the stickyness.

Re: Very sticky neck

I say keep any kind of polish well away from guitar necks. You especially don't want that stuff near an unfinished fretboard because it soaks in and stops good products such as Fret Doctor from sinking in and doing their job of protecting and nourishing the wood.

Re: Very sticky neck

well it'll go matte so if you want a clean break between matte on the neck and the gloss say on the headstock, then you could mask it off..

Re: Very sticky neck

I ALWAYS sand down my necks. I hate the gloss feeling too. And I notice it effects me because when my hands sweat, the neck is a bit more difficult to play if it is still glossed.

Re: Very sticky neck

That's the ONLY reason I sold my PRS. I may get another one with the rosewood neck.

I take it you are a ~sweater~ ??? Remind me not to shake your hand

Lol...seriously, I wouldn't sand it. Just use some 0000 steel wool. Always wipe her down after each session (strings and neck) and contrary to what mum says, always wash your hands BEFORE you play

Also as Dee mentioned, Fret Doctor is good stuff.
