Vine of Life inlay dimensions

I am making a guitar, and want a paua abalone Vine of Life inlay. Stew-Mac sells it in 2-3/4 x 4-3/4 sheets, or in one ounce packages. However, I am not sure how much space the inlay will need. If anyone else has done this, or has an idea of how much I need, please let me know. Also, about the "one ounce packages", does anyone know what that means? How much will I get in terms of size? Thanks a lot for all the help.

Your best bet is to call StewMac about the one ounce packaging.

One ounce will do a vine of life, that should include about 12 pieces approx 1" x 1.5"

Don't forget to wear proper breathing protection when using the abalone, as it is toxic to breath, and be prepared to require a lot of patience, cutting shell is tricky, you'll probably break a couple pieces, but superglue will repair it fine, and after polishing, you'll barely notice if you do break it.
