Volume Knob Noise - how do I get rid of it?

Greetings,

So I'm playing my RG today and I roll down the volume to get a more subtle crunch going on.. and all I hear is *ppppfffffhhhhh* - static as I move my volume knob around!

What's causing this? Do my pots need cleaning? What do I need to do to eliminate this...
I have a good idea about how to go about fixing this but I want some other opinions first...

Clean the pots man.

get a can of Deoxit D5. it is the best stuff out there...

Open the cover plate or remove the pickguard and squirt some contact cleaner in the slot of the potentiometer and turn the knob back and forth, do your 5 way switch as well.
Make sure you find a cleaner that does NOT melt plastic.

You can use a isopropilic alcohool. Don't have water.

Isopropyl alcohol usually IS mixed with 30% water unless you can get a 100% solution.
Use spray contact cleaner, it is MUCH easier to get it where you need it versus a non compressed liquid.
