TH,

I think what you are trying to do is feasible. This scheme will certainly will be very flexible.

You may be able to achieve the same configurations in a more intuitive way. How about adding a push-pull to split the bridge and a push-pull or toggle to turn on the neck or bridge pickup. By doing this you can have the 5 way control the pickups in a the traditional manner, but still get the bridge and neck pickups on at the same time.

By the way, Stewmac is great to deal with. I buy a lot of my tools and parts from them.

Oh and about the turning down the volume to clean up your sound...

Are you trying to clean up a high-gain setting? If so what you are experiencing is normal.

Whether using the volume control to clean up your sound works well depends a lot on your rig and your pickups. The Super Distortion is a very hot pickup. So you REALLY have to turn down a lot to clean it up. The other issue is the amp and its settings. If you are running an with a high-gain preamp setting then cleaning up the sound by turning down the volume may not be possible, because almost any signal you run into the amp will sound distorted. This problem will be compounded by a hot pickup. Try backing off on the preamp gain a bit. That may help.

Rick,

The distortion I'm using is a DS-1, like I said above, and I'm running it in the clean channel of my amp. I noticed that the pickups in my RG (Evo/YJM/Breed) don't clean up nearly as well (knobs aren't good either). On the other hand, my [MusicMan] Axis does, but I left the stock pickups in. Any suggestions for [DiMarzio] pickups that will sound good and clean up as well?

Thanx for the help. *Does anyone have any idea of how to wire the megaswitch for what I want? *I'm running on a limited budget, so I want to do this with as few new parts as possible. *rickboot: *Would putting a higher capacity volume knob help? *I am using very high gain stuff.

the higher the value of the pot only means you get more treble through, as lower value pots bleed treble (hence fenders use 250's to add warmth to the sound)

a wiring diagram of sorts comes with the megaswitch with several different wiring options .

The Breeds and Evos are hot too, but I wouldn't change them. I'd start playing with the gain (dist knob) and especially the output level (level knob) of the DS-1. If that fails, try taking the DS-1 out of the loop and find an amp setting that will work.

As you mentioned people use the volume to go from an overdriven to a cleaner sound. Going from really distorted to clean with the volume pot is probably a bit much to expect. If you want to do that I think some foot stomping is going to be necessary.

Being more of a foot switching sort of guy I'd like to hear from somethat is a volume pot rider. Anyone?

Try finding an MP3/video of Bon Jovi on "Storytellers". *Preferably the ending of "Wanted Dead or Alive" or the middle section of "Just Older". *That's where I first saw this done.

Please don't force me to watch a Bon Jovi video!

I seriously doubt changing the pot will help. Focus on the gain of your pickups, pedal and amp.

Let me know if you need help with the wiring.
