Volume Pot on my RG Just Completely Seized Up
I few minutes ago I was turning the volume knob on my guitar down and, all of a sudden, it got stuck and wouldn't turn. Then, the whole volume pot came completely loose and I have no idea what the hell happened. It's only a few months old. Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Volume Pot on my RG Just Came Completely Loose
I just took the knob off, tightened the volume pot, and put the knob back on. Now the knob turns but it sort of grinds and is extremely stiff. I don't understand how a volume pot can just seize up like that.

O_O Another one? This has also happened to me and Dee with our new Ibanezes.
What model guitar? What year was it made?

It's an RG1570MRB made in 2006.

Re: Volume Pot on my RG Just Came Completely Loose
Exactly what happened to mine, a brand new one my RG 20th. One minute it was fine, the next, completely unable to be moved! Not so good when you're in the middle of a recording session.
Just get it replaced man, or at least try spraying some switch cleaner / lube in there. It should sort it out. It sorted mine out a little, but still needed replacing because it felt crap and I had to use a lot of force to turn it. Keep in mind: Dimarzio pots have a larger shaft than Ibanez ones, so avoid those if you need to replace it. Unless of course you want to make a larger hole in your guitar.

Re: Volume Pot on my RG Just Came Completely Loose
It happened to my Jem 7VWH (07 serial number but 2006 date on the inspection card). Is your guitar under warranty? Mine was, and I was sent a replacement pot, but it's the same kind so I'm a little concerned it may happen again.

Re: Volume Pot on my RG Just Came Completely Loose
Did you put any spray lube in there Petie? In the UK we have some stuff called WD-40. I don't know if you have that in Oz, but there must be something similar.

Somebody else just wrote me of their new 1570 pot freezing up. I'm starting to suspect a bad batch of pots.
edit, you're the one that wrote

Re: Volume Pot on my RG Just Came Completely Loose
Is there a different brand of pot that I could replace it with that's better than the Ibanez ones?

3 just within the Jemsite community within a space of a handful of weeks seems a little suspicious to me. I'll be interested to know if you hear of any more, Rich.
