Ways to tune.
So yea, i just got back from school after taking my fender squier with the sustainer in it to record in my music tech class.
and most of the students in that class are guitar majors, like myself.
and my friend was tuning my strings wierdly. like he was tuning to a D chord.
i just wanted to kno.
How do you guys tune??
Whats the best way. Open? fifth fret? harmonics?

One string at a time. With a tuner half step down for now.

Re: Ways to tune.
Well the ear doesn't lie, it just depends how accurate your tuner is. I say I use a tuner because half the time I'm in an environment where I can't hear the guitar I'm trying to tune.

Re: Ways to tune.
Unless you use some kind of compensated nut or alternate fret system, a guitar in tune with open strings will be slightly out of tune with certain chords.

Cid's right, and don't use only harmonics at the 12th fret. it's uncorrect. pluck the strings while checking the intonation.

That may be why your chords are almost in tune.
I use a tuner and then I use harmonics for fine tuning, but usually the tuner is 99% close.

Re: Ways to tune.
I tune the high e with a tuner (or a song if there's playing some at the moment). Then I tune the rest of the strings in fifths on the fifth fret. B-string 5. fr with E-string 7. fr., G-string 5. fr. with B-string 8. fr., etc.. Works fine and is easy.
