What is the best way to

clean all the gunk off your fret board

without removing strings

I find that a new strings grind the skin from my fingers and there is a lot of gunk left on the fret board

any solutions

thanks

I don't think there is a way to do it without removing all the strings! And we all know how much of a PITA that is. Ah the joys of a double-locking trem...

I have just learned to live with it.

Re: What is the best way to

Just take the strings off and put something under the trem to keep pressure on the springs, I used to use a magazine or a stack of index cards.

Re: What is the best way to

1. remove strings
2. use the edge of a hard pick to scrape all the gunk off
3. use 0000 gauge steel wool to rub the surface of the board and polish the frets while youre at it
4. oil the board with bore oil
5. clean the rest of you guitar
6. put a new set of strings on

i dont know about anyone else here but I hate that "fast fret" or similar stuff, it turns your fretboard into a sh1t magnet, so dont use that crap either

do this every time you change strings and you will never have a gunky fretboard.
if ya dont, your guitar will be minging... and no-one (including you) will want to play it

I hate it when I even start to see the minutest amount of oxidation of the frets, it makes your fingers smell of metal and I hate that too...

clean regularly matey !

Re: What is the best way to

actually, having a double locking tremolo makes it super easy and fast to remove the strings.
i am sure it's in the tech section of www.ibanezrules.com

you pop off the springs on the tremolo, lift the tremolo out and the strings are out of the way for cleaning the fretboard. when you're done, put the trem back in place, put the springs back on and you'll probably even still be in tune.

Re: What is the best way to

thanks for the advice

but when I put new strings on the fret board will get really gunky

the strings being new and all

I'll only be playing a day and this would happen

what do most people do

Re: What is the best way to

Try dabbing surgical spirit onto the tips of your fingers. This will toughen them up and stop them from loosing bits onto your fret board.

In other words, Toughen up Nancy boy !

Re: What is the best way to

I have developed calices on my fingers

but after playing for a good while my fingers loose a bit of their skin

its my own problem (skin condition)

just wondering if there is an alternative to always having to change strings everytime the board gets dirty

in that case I would have to change them everyday (which is not economical)

cheers

Re: What is the best way to

Try wiping down your strings every time you've finished playing. It's normal to lose some skin after a while, it happens to me, the sweat ruins calluses, but if you wipe down your strings after you've done playing you should be fine. I do it all the time now.
