What polish to use ?

Hi

Does any1 got any expierience with those string-polishing products ?
I am searching for one as I hate it when my strings get dirty and they tend to get dirty after about 2 days ( sweaty hands probably ) .
Does anyone know soms good string polishing products ?

I used to use lighter fluid years ago. Rubbing alcohol works too. Best idea is to wipe the strings top AND bottom after you're done playing every time. That'll keep the plain strings clean. Gunk will still accumulate in your wound strings though.

Gibson of course, you should know it, from when I came along jamming! You cleaned even the house with it

I used FastFret for a while. Don't like it much though....too expensive
It dulls your tone out a bit when you have new strings (I don't use it on new strings for that reason) but after 1 week it makes your tone a bit sharper....

Maybe some WD40 would also work. Paul Gilbert uses it......

Re: What polish to use ?

Jaco Pastorius was rumored to use Chicken Grease! Can you imagine? Cats would be following you home from gigs.

I use fast fret, always swear by it. It lasts a long time. I just discovered Elixer strings, too, since they came stock on my Ibanez RG320DXQMTR and my new Ibanez BTB405qmk bass. I was wondering why my strings still looked and sounded like new even though i bought the guitar in JULY! Then I found out they were factory installed Elixers on there. When I first heard about those Elixers on the market, I was like, who the heck pays $10 for a set of strings, but now i know why!

Also, I get these little alcohol prep pads, like they use to wipe off your arm before they draw blood samples from you. Just wrap it around a string and scrub it down. Dries fast. Gets all the black gook off them.

I'm only on my 2nd set of strings since July, and the only reason I changed them was because I just felt it was getting to be too long for that set. I put on a new set around a week ago, and it was exactly the same!

BTW, I play alot, like 2-3 hours a day, but I don't gig with that guitar, so it doesn't get contaminated by smoke, beer, and major gig sweat. Also, don't leave the guitar out on a stand when you're not playing it. Put it in the case and wipe it down, bridge hardware and back of the neck too. Keeps it all cherry and stuff!
