What the hell is Borax?

Simple question, what the hell is it and whats its primary use. I know its used to lower the surface tension on water when swirling but im pretty sure it was never designed for that small market alone. Ive seen borax befour as an industral hand cleaner, is this the same thing where talking about. If so then question answered?

It's a powdered soap, yep, same thing. It basically acts as a 'lubricant' so the paint can move about on the surface of the water more freely, as you thought.

It answered the question I had, so it was a great place to ask the question. Hope you dont think Im wasting time asking on here, Ive seen a lot worse threads on here and what ever you put on here it always strays off on a tangent.
