When changing gauge is a new setup required?

Hi all,

I'm thinking of changing my string gauge from a heavy bottom/skinny top combination to a more general light/medium setting.

My question is- and I apologise if this has been covered elsewhere but I couldn't find it- should I take my guitar in for a pro set-up job beforehand, tailored for the new gauge. The guitar has been set up before for the gauge I'm no longer going to use. So basically I'm wondering if that previous set up would have to be adjusted for new strings or if a set up is something that only needs to be done once with a new guitar just to iron out all the deficiencies in the individual guitar.

Thanks in advance for any help and advice
Ryan.

Im assuming you have a floating trem, you will have to set it up again but its best you do it yourself to learn how to. Search the forum and richs site for guides to seting up a floating trem and follow their directions.

if you dont have a floating trem then no new setup is required beside intonation which probably wont be bad enough to redo it straight away.

The main adjustment you'll need is the trem angle - adjusting springs in the cavity on the back. Maybe a little truss rod tweak and intonation.

Anyway as Crevis said http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/index.htm is the place to go
