When you turn the tremposts to lower action..

I guess you are digging the trem studs into the wood, so is it possible to damage a guitar doing this? Talking about an OFR or Edge.. Ofcourse I don't mean in extreme fashion, but until the guitar has a low action on the fretboard. Any signs when you should stop?

Re: When you turn the tremposts to lower action..

The trem studs sit in a threaded steel anchor, so you are not in any danger of damaging the wood. Depending upon the age of your Ibanez you may have locking studs - if you look directly into the top of the Allen Key slot in the top of the stud - there MAY be a little (about 2mm diametre) hole in the stud - this means you have locking studs with a 2mm allen bolt that locks the stud into the threaded anchor - you MUST undo this before trying to lower the bridge post otherewise you run the risk of snapping the top off the bridge post.

Plenty of forum threads on the locking post subject by the way.

Cheers

David

Re: When you turn the tremposts to lower action..

I feel stupid now. I have the Lo Pro Edge, a Schaller and OFR. So I need to loosen the smaller allenkey insert first and then lower it and when done adjusting just tightening it fully right?

The Floyd doesn't work like this, but I haven't found the need to adjust it. Could you please give me a brief example of how this works?

Edit: Sure enough the small thing is rotating, but I have moved the bridge down without doing it first. **** sakes, thankfully this is an abused guitar and I know better now for my future JEM. Thanks again to Ibanezrules and yourself.
