Always, so I can easliy get to the springs when I want to adjust the set-up. Only problem is that I end up loosing them!

Re: Who removes the Trem Back Plate?

I ended up taking mine off because i scratched the hell out of it from my belt buckle. Now I learned to put my buckle in the back instead of the front.

Just buy trousers that fit you.

I removed the back plate on my 20th to preserve it, but otherwise I would normally leave it on. I don't need to adjust the set up of the springs once they're done.

I also removed the back plate on my 20th. I had to adjust for Eflat tuning. I will not put it back on. None of my Ibanezs, Strats, or my Jackson has a back plate.

Re: Who removes the Trem Back Plate?

I leave mine off my j-custom because the spring retaining bar slightly touches it during trem use.Its a necktrough,so short of putting a shorter block on the trem, it is my only option.

I always take it off and store with the screws in my parts box.

Re: Who removes the Trem Back Plate?

Backplates were never on my guitars which is why I begged for so long for Ibanez to use the slotted covers.

Micro spring adjustments are the best way [IMO] to make corrections in tuning as a guitar changes due to temp and atmosphere. Start playing a cold guitar and it runs sharp as you warm it up, back off the springs a little. Likewise for any other reason tuning would start to drift. Only when I'd restring would I do a full baseline setup again.

Re: Who removes the Trem Back Plate?

Use electrical tape on your springs! Forget the tissue, 2 inches of tape around the end of each spring makes them completely dead.

I try and use slotted backplates so I leave mine on, if it isn't slotted a prefer it off usually
