Wiring help with H-S-H - Need humbuckers on in 2 and 4 posit

G'day all,

I'm re-wiring my H-S-H Ibanez Radius and I am not sure where to place the wires to do the following.

(number indicates switch position)

1 - Bridge Humbucker
2 - Bridge Humbucker + Neck Humbucker
3 - Single Coil middle
4 - Bridge Humbucker + Neck Humbucker
5 - Neck Humbucker

I don't want to split the humbuckers at all, so that should make life easier. The 5 way switch is just a standard 5 way switch with the part number YM-50.

I'm not certain this wiring can be done, but if someone on here knows of a way or knows of a schematic online I could use I would be very greatful.

I've already checked out the Ibanez wiring diagrams and the Seymour Duncan site, I'll check others too but in the meantime I thought someone here might have tried this config already.

Thanks for reading.

Tony

Wiring help with H-S-H

I don't think you'll be able to get that wiring combo with a standard switch.. * You could probably do it with one of those Yamaha switches if that's really what you want.

You could get all those pickup combinations, but not in that order. *You could get the following..

Bridge HB
Bridge HB + Neck HB
Neck HB
Neck HB + Middle Single
Middle Single

I used to have a Gibson Nighthawk that was switched like that...didn't realize why until just now. *It's kind of like LP switching with a couple extra options at the end.

Anyway, if that sounds like an acceptable substitute, I can post a wiring diagram for you.

Wiring help with H-S-H

I've worked it out using a standard 2 pole (8 solder lugs), 5 way switch but I can't get the middle single coil to dissengage in the 2 and 4 position yet.

I'm going to add a push pull switch I think in the tone pot area to get what I need now.

Tony

(Edit : Revised terminology for switch and added push pull comment)

You might also want to consider using a 3-way blade switch for the 2 HBs, and using the push-pull pot to switch between the single coil and the output of the 3-way. *Might make the switching a little easier.

Wiring help with H-S-H

Kuma,

I'm considering a 3 way switch but that might limit the possibilities to not having those 2 and 4 sounds which I would like to know I could access.

Jester,

I'd use the 2 and 4 positions all the time on my 540 but the volume level is just too low when I switch to them. I tried turning the stacked single coil as a single coil and even put in that Seymour Duncan, and while the volume levels went up so did the 60hz hum. Rather than have the hum, I'd prefer the fullness of the humbuckers with the possibility of going to single coils with a push pull pot.

I'm glad I didn't buy a H-S-S now, I'm too used to a H-H config to go back to H-S-S.

Re: Wiring help with H-S-H

i think you need the 5 way multipole Switch ...
For split the humbuckers, and not lose the HumCancelling

dimarzio have it with the code: EP1112
