worn pivot edges on floyd rose

Hi

I read ages ago that heavy use of a floyd rose tremolo causes the knife egdes to blunt and prevent the trem from returning to its zero position. this has made me wary about buying used guitars with a floyd. is this a problem for all floyds or only the cheap copies?

I'm asking because i'm thinking about getting a used ibanez rg550 or something similar.

cheers
ben

Eventually they will wear and cause a trem to go either sharp or flat on its resting point. wouldnt worry too much, as long as you keep em oiled then they should last. They are just like everything else on a guitar, frets, bridge, tuners, they all go eventually, you just have to look after em.

hey but if ur getting an ibanez check to see if its an edge pro brige with knife edge because thoes are less likly to wear out and just to be sure test out the guitar mess with the bridge before u buy it and see if it goes out of tune when u use it

Thats true, if i bought a used guitar with a locking trem on id take the thing to peices first to check it. Check the locking nut too, i found the allen bolts had worn on my strat and wouldnt hold it in tune, bought some new ones and that did the trick, only thing is now, one of the string clamps has cracked.
