ZR problems.....

So I'm doing my annual take the S-470 apart and do a tune-up. When I got the strings off, I noticed that the saddle on the D string is loose. Upon further check I see that the holding bolt hole is ovaled thus, the saddle cannot be tightened down!! Now I've never had to mess with the saddles so somehow or another, this bolt worked loose enough and then I imagine the string tension on the saddle ovaled the hole. This is an S-470 with a ZR trem. I'm wondering if they make saddle holding bolts that are longer?? I didn't see any on the Ibanez web site. You guys ever have anything like this happen?

Re: ZR problems.....

So you are saying the threaded hole the bolt goes into is ovalled (as opposed to the head of the bolt)? That's pretty strange. And it was never like that before?

You could certainly try a longer bolt. If you can't find one locally, you can try the web hardware vendors. Not a lot else you can do except install a helicoil.

Ask Rich.

yep, the threaded hole is ovalled. It is weird. Probably means it was loose in the saddle for quite some time.

Re: ZR problems.....

I kinda doubt this. If you pull the bridge out you'll see all the saddle screws run into a threaded steel [not zinc] plate under the trem.

Yep, I noticed that Rich just not sure how this happened cause I know I've never messed with the saddles. I'm bummed now, cause I was thinking about selling it to afford my 7-string habit. Now I've gotta fix this first. Any suggestions?

Re: ZR problems.....

As has already been said, helicoil, or try and find out the part number for the plate and order another.
