ZR Trems; Technical marvel

Crazy question:

WHY oh WHY are ZR trems only on S models ?

Check it out:
ZR Vs. Any other ibanez trem.
Ball bearing Vs. knife and post gnawing away at eachother.
Zero Point Vs. Very small theoretical chance of returning to neutral
Zero Point Vs. Huuuuuge problem on light string breaks
Zero Point Vs. Not being able to do double stop bends
Quick spring tension adjustment Vs. Hmm,.. where did I put that screwdriver...
Built in intonation tool Vs. Getting intonation to 90% after two weeks of fiddling (without non-official ibanez tool )
Arm tension adjustment Vs. Gee,... I'm out of nailpolish

More info on http://www.jemsite.com/news/edge2003/

It's technically superior to anything on any super exclusive prestige model. Can someone please tell me the reason the ZR is not on all ibanez double locking trem guitars ?

( Depth might be an issue,.. but must be an easy fix for ibanez... )

Seriously,... tell me,.. Really curious

Re: ZR Trems; Technical marvel

I agree %100. Why it is only on S-models is mind boggling. They NEVER go out of tune and the spring tension is a breeze to adjust if you want to change string gauges. That is why I have had a jem, RG and JS custom built with the ZR route. That way you can have a 24 fret guitar that has the ZR as well.

Re: ZR Trems; Technical marvel

I tried an S Model the other day, and I have to admit it's a VERY nice trem, I hear the knife edges dull a bit quickly wit extensive use; although I've never actually owned a ZR so I can't be positive.

The ZR pivots on ball bearings not knife edges.

Haha thanks. I actually got banned from UG near the end of July for 45 days (replying to spam, eh). But anyway, I have to get me a ZR, I've only tried it once and it felt great.

Hi both of you, I'm a writer for UG, I recently wrote "Bass Player Appreciation" (in the columns section), and have two or three articles that should be up in a week or so; keep an eye out for 'em, I'll let ya know when they're posted.

As for ZR trems, never tried them, but this sounds interesting...

I've noticed in this day and age that just because something is technically better in every way doesn't always mean it's widely accepted.

Re: ZR Trems; Technical marvel

maybe more people still prefer the knife edge trems? the ball bearings do feel different, much more smoother.
I think i read vai tried a zr but still prefers original edge

How's the flutter?

I was just fvckn w/F# sym dim and the flutter effect on the F# and G through the mesa. I need the flutter.

Vai does not use this trem. NOr does satch. Wonder why.

Just because Vai and Satch prefer Edge trems doesn't mean all other trems suck.

Rock on!

Re: ZR Trems; Technical marvel

No offense meant. I have heard of the benefits of ZR; just haven't experienced them.

How about the flutter? I like that effect.

My knife trems always seem to come back after major whamming, true in tune.

The sustain loss bothers me; so does the difficulty in doing doublestops or bending a string while an open string rings out.

But they should offer the ZR on at least some prestige or JCs.

I agree.

Although I love my Edge Pro as it gives me perfect tuning and such. I just wish that double stops and bends didn't flatten all the other strings.

But hey, that's life.

That's what the Tremel-No is for, although only in hardtail mode. I have yet to find me one.
