8 string with fanned frets

Ibanez needs to make an 8 string guitar with fanned frets, the market is out there and if they don't make it people will continue to shop with other companies. "If you build it they will come"

do you really think there is a substantial market for these axes? Regardless, making a fanned fret guitar requires paying hefty fees to Novax...

I woldn't call $55 to $75 per instrument "hefty". I think it's a very reasonable licensing fee for a patented innovation.

@Darren. What/who determines those fees?

Just curious, and I think you know what you're talking about. (As long as it is not green.)

Ok, maybe not hefty but still a cost (I was going by the Leviathan discussion). To that you would have to add the investment into mass-production of such fretoards. And, my comment on the market for those things still stands...

I agree that the fanned-fret system probably scares a lot of players. It's the kind of thing i imagine a lot of people wouldn't commit to until they've tried one out extensively first.

Eh

I doubt there is a substantial market for a production line 8-string.

There is barely for the 7-string. We`re lucky the latter years trends have supported 7-strings, and hence making 8s easier to come by.

Exactly.
My latest addition has fanned frets and I hardly notice it at all. I was, however, a little worried at first.

Fanned frets look scary, but they really should be more comfortable and effective than standard "vertical" frets because they mirror the natural finger spread more closely.
