I'm not saying it can't be done, but I don't see how a custom will cost less than a production? When I come out about even I think I've done well, but usually it comes out alot more expensive than the production.

I'd be tempted to get one if the colours were nice, and even more so if it had a piezo bridge , and to think that when I cam here I hated swirls. Ever since then, well, i think adrian's pmc sold me. Next thing I know I'll start liking vines

As long as it doesn't cut into the regular product range, then sure why not? But only then :) I've never liked swirls, they give me headaches, but I'm weird like that.

Mee Too!

Just what, us 19 people whom haved signed this are willing to buy one or two. So even if they sold them for a minumum of 2000 (probably a little cheap) they would easily make 38000 out of the whole deal, just a little something to think aobut Ibanez...

I think that the logistics of having ATD do another production run of UVMC's is enough in itself to prevent it from happening. Darren is so busy with his regular workload that having even a few hundred UV's to do would probably not be very feasible.

Most of us would love to see this but everyone's points why it could or won't happen are equally valid. However, a regular production model in smaller runs may work out well. I know some other companies do this all the time. There may very well be an attraction caused by the fact the guitar is a little harder to get. As much as I'd like to see the traditional MC back, in the interest of sales, it may be a better idea to do a swirl (or swirls) in more toned-down colors. Swirls are great since they offer a familiar product but each one is different-that's a great selling point. If they reissue something, using the AANJ instead of the old style joint would clearly make it a reissue (helping prevent future fraud) and re-tooling a machine wouldn't be necessary keeping costs down.

What I think would be really cool as a commemorative JEM or UV is a JEM/UV-MC (or any color). Basically a 7 string JEM. The prototype had a monkey grip. Adding the lions claw would be cool, too and could be a great special edition to commemorate either series or Vai's involvement with Ibanez. (Three birds-one stone)

I hate to be the naysayer here, but...

It is 2002. Multicolored guitars are currently about as cool with the general public as spandex and big hair. Yes, there's about a hundred die-hard collectors who would love to see another run of these things, but in the rest of the world these things would have a VERY limited appeal. So what does this say to ibanez? limited production run- aka, the DNA series. Just enough so they'll all sell and the market will support them, and no more. I'd imagine unless popular tastes change pretty drastically in the next few years, we'll never see a full production run of MC's again.

Is this a bad thing? Not at all. Ibanez has already done swirls. What made them cool at the time was that they HAD never been done. It would be more in keeping with the "spirit" of the original line for ibanez to do something equally different and new. The textured finishes they've been playing with are a start, but they're pretty understated. I don't know what to suggest, but the upshot is i think the only swirls you'll be seeing now are custom ones.

Course, i'd be a sucker for a good quilted top UV...

Multicolors are not cool with self-important "guitarists" in 2002 and on mass merchandise sludge like mtv.

But they can be very cool with non guitarists to the general public who doesn't know one guitar from another, and frankly doesn't care. I know this from reactions to the many swirls i've owned (and two i still own). People dig them... never have they concerned themselves with the "name" on the headstock.

now back to the request for a MC that will likely never come to fruition in our lifetime ... glen

i believe they could do some special anniversary thing...but i'm sure the thing would cost at least 6k or something.

buy a beat up UV7bk for about 700, send the body to atd (~500?), and the neck to lgm for the inlays (~200?). 1400 for your MC.

i can sell you the neck plate with a serial number starting with '91' for.....2000! lol

Right on.

As I was preparing to leave music retail, I noticed that the available finishes on many guitars from many manufacturers (including Ibanez) were getting more diverse and more vivid. For quite a few years everything was black, sunburst, deeper reds, or whatever. I'm glad to see things coming around.

I don't think the "uniqueness" of the swirl idea really plays much of a role in Ibanez's thoughts of producing or not producing more guitars with those finishes. It HAS been done before-just not by them before 1990.

We'll just have to wait and see.

AANJ!
Need more universes with it

I think swirls are very cool and i'm only 17!
I don't own one but if Ibanez brought out one with AANJ, Lopro, all the nice new features etc. I'd buy one in an instant
Really like the DNA and GMC swirls

Maybe they could do a red/white/black one like in the Herc Fede gallery, that looks pretty classy

Point taken, although i still stand by my comment that i'd rather see something new from Ibanez, rather than a re-release of the MC's.
