Let me first start off by saying that I
absolutely luv Ibanez's RG guitars, but that I
absolutely loathe their poorly made Edge & Lo-Pro Edge series tremolos. For one thing, the metal that they're made out of's entirely too soft, particularly when it comes to the bars themselves. If you're an
extremely abusive whammy bar user like I am, after a while of wanging up & down on the bar, it tends to break, thus leaving what's left of it stuck in it's socket in the tremolo unit. I hate that! Also, the knife edges tend to wear out
far too easily after a while of use. It is for this reason that when it came time for me to finally get my
Ibanez USA Custom "Iceworld" guitar back up & running, I chose a Fender
Floyd Rose Pro tremolo instead. Yeah, yeah, I know: I've just committed sacrilege in the eyes of many an Ibanez guitar owner, but what can I say? The original Floyd Rose Pros're just made better, 'cause they're made by Schaller in Germany using German-made parts. BTW, I'd like to hear from anyone else who has the same complaints as me. I mean, why can't Ibanez fix these problems by getting Schaller to make their tremolos for them? I've mentioned this several times over to their Southeastern rep over the years, but nothing seems to ever get done about it. Yes, I know, it'd probably add to the cost of their guitars, but it's a problem that's been plaguing these trems from day 1 & it needs to be fixed! So how 'bout it, Ibanez? Can we expect to see an Edge or Lo-Pro Edge III where the bars're made thicker & outta a better grade steel & w/ the knife edges also being made outta a better grade steel & heat-treated for longer life? Or are us whammy bar torture nuts gonna hafta keep having their local luthiers replace these poorly made units w/ the real thing? 'Nuff said.
