new EDC 705 bass with D & G string problems

I have a new Ibanez EDC 705 5 string bass and the D & G strings have little to no resonation to them. They just thud for a hard to describe problem. The other strings in same fret areas ring out and resonate fine. I've tried 2 amps and a direct box through a mixer with same results. I have sent warranty card on 1-28-2003 to Ibanez and multiple e-mails to them but no response. I have tried lower the action but no help only slaps. I have played a Gibson now for 25 years and needless to say I am dissapointed with Ibanez. Can anyone help. Guitar came with Elixir strings.

Change your strings and check the pickup height. If possible, have a professional do a set-up on it (will include both of those as well as neck and action adjustments.) Good luck.
