New Idea for pickup toggles - i dunno, it could work...

K i posted this somewhere else as well but...
Those 5 ways, their pretty good but, its only a selection of 5. *My idea, was having an on/off toggle for each individual pickup (so 2 per hummer). *I'm not sure if it would work, but if it did think of the choices!

New Idea for pickup toggles

Mini-toggles for each pickup are great for versatility, not so great for being able to change sounds easily on the fly. The concept you're suggesting, with a mini-toggle for each coil sounds even more tricky, but it could probably be done.

I think you'd probably have to add more switches to control the phase of the coils so you could combine them in different ways and still have them be hum-cancelling.

One of my favourite switching mods is a series/split/parallel switch for humbuckers. Some 'buckers sound great in parallel mode... a bit more sparkly and not quite as hot, but still humbucking. Sort of half way between a full humbucking and a single-coil sound. The Duncan JB sounds great in parallel.

New Idea for pickup toggles

Yeah i suppose your right. *But with practice i think anyone could get it. *Hell people can play rapid sucessions of 64th notes on many differing strings, and hendrix used the tone on his guitar as a wah peddle so i think this can be acomplished.

New Idea for pickup toggles

Ibanez used to use an array of mini toggles on some of the 540 Sabre Radius and Power guitars, I think Satch's original white 540P had mini toggles. But Ibanez has since moved away from that idea.

Tom Anderson still offers it's "switcheroo" system of minitoggles, so it must have "some" place in the market.

Whilst mini toggles do offer a greater variety of tones, I think most players prefer the ease and immediate nature of the 5 way or even 3 way switch.

New Idea for pickup toggles

I think Jackson was probably the first company to make three mini-toggles a really popular feature on early Soloists. Then everybody started jumping on the super-strat bandwagon and copied them.

The Anderson "switcheroo" setup is pretty interesting, because it's very versatile, but the "blower" switch makes it very useful. For those that don't know, the blower switches from whatever setup you've got set on your mini-toggles to the bridge humbucker wide open.

New Idea for pickup toggles

How about something like the MusicMan Morse model, with 4 pickups and 11 different configurations?

You can find the wiring diagram on the site.
