Suggestion to Hoshino - Control Layout
Now, i know for a fact im not alone when it comes to finding that the volume pot on my guitar gets in the way of my picking hand.
The only
ibanez guitars
i can think of which have a layout which is out of the way is John Petruccis and
Rob Balducci
.
Anyone ever thought about maybe making a couple of guitars with this layout? even a 520/620 variant with the petrucci style control layout, everything else stock, im sure it would sell.

Re: Suggestion to Hoshino - Control Layout
+1, I would love that.
Don't forget the PGMs too, and I think there's a couple of J-customs that have the Petrucci-style layout too. Also the MTM guitars. Would like to see one at a lower price range though.

Re: Suggestion to Hoshino - Control Layout
Yea definately.
I didnt mention PGMs because they only have the 1 knob and the 2610 is the same layout (i think) but its kinda the same idea, keeping it out of the way.
I think MT did because his BC Rich guitars were similar, not sure.

Re: Suggestion to Hoshino - Control Layout
I'm just guessing, but I imagine that the volume control was placed close to the strings / bridge so that people could do volume swells more easily (like the kind that you hear in
Van Halen
's "Cathedral").
I agree, though. Even if it was just moved about 1 cm further away, downward and to the rear, that would be nice.

Re: Suggestion to Hoshino - Control Layout
I never liked the position of the volume knob annoying as hell....disturbs my hand terribly.....the pgm had hit the spot though

Re: Suggestion to Hoshino - Control Layout
I don't mind the positioning of the Ibanez volume knob at all... Jackson
volume knobs
, now, are a completely different story.
I think we should be grateful for what we have in this department.

Re: Suggestion to Hoshino - Control Layout
I don't like the position. It's all
Steve Vai
's fault! I play RG's, which are descended from the JEM, and of course the RG's have copied the whole layout.
The RG vol knob has already moved (in the early 90's, I think), but not enough!

Re: Suggestion to Hoshino - Control Layout
It is easy to do with Jems and other guitars with pickguards. Just get a new pickguard made without volume/tone/toggle holes and drill the necessary holes where you want them! I did this with my old RG...I removed the tone pot/knob and re-positioned the toggle and volume pot/knob.
