Trempost issues - new style trempost sucks

Dear folks at Ibanez.....
Thank you for making fine guitars, I deeply enjoy my new Jem.
However, there is one big problem I've noticed, the trempost, and I hope I can explain this right.
The point where the tremknive touches the post, is too wide.
I've got an old type post and a new type post right here, and you can clearly see the 'hole' on the new post is a bit rounded, where as the old type is a perfect sharp triangular shape. The problem with this is that it's very easy to screw such a post up. That is exactly what the store did where i bought the guitar. He appearantly lowewrd the trem, which resulted in two 'cuts' in the post. On an old style post, this is almost inpossible, since two 'cuts' won't fit in the perfect triangular gap. Luckaly, I still had a set of old posts, but the new one is really screwed up. I can see the two cuts sitting nicely together, wich allowd the trem knive to jump between the two cuts, which resulted in bad tunning problems.
Thank you,
Jeroen Noordhuis

Trempost issues

Jeroenn- *Using text to describe a problem is very difficult. *I think I understand your problem, but I'm not totally sure.

Is there any way you can take pics of the trem/posts and upload them for us to see? *It would make it much easier for us and/or Ibanez to remedy the situation.

Also, is the guitar still under warranty? *If so, what has your local shop said about it? *That information will help too.

I'll see if I can draw up the problem tonight.
I didn't go for the waranty, since the shop is on the other side of the country, and I had enough spare parts to fix the problem.
I think I can make a bitmap drawing of the problem.

i should add the posts on the Japanese made JEM/RG/UVs have not changed in over a decade. I would still inquire about a warranty, even if the shop needs to ship the parts. To fail to use the warranty is very foolish and does not notify dealers of potential problems in setup, delivery, etc... glen

Hmm, glen, the posts I had came of a '87 RG 560.
They certainly look diffrent. I'm making a little drawing to clarify my problem.
Didn't thought of it that way, I'll contact the shop this week.

please post a JPG or drawing... side by side would be good. It's possible the '87 had the old-style not currently being used... glen

Ok, here we go:

Point 'c' in the image is what toutches point 'a' in the old posts, and 'b' on the new. You can clearly see that 'a' is a sharp triangular shaped point. And 'b' is more rounded.
It's impossible for the knive (c) to scratch deep into 'a' because there is no room. On my 'b' post, there was room enough to scratch it in two places, making the knive switch between the two scratches, thereby causing a 'click' sound as well as tunning problems.
Hope this clears it all up, it's just a quick drawing...
Thanks,

Ok, Post A is the correct post that your Edge/LoPro should ride on. *Post B is bad. *I'm not sure where "B" came from (local dealer?), but it should be returned immediately, and replaced with "A".

If the guitar was purchased new, ask the shop to send you the appropriate posts, and toss the crappy ones in a shoe box under your bed. *Don't send them back to the dealer- it's better that they don't accidentally end up on one of the dealers other guitars, again. *Let them know that the posts that came on your guitar ( "B" ) are NOT for Ibanez Edge/LoPro trems. *To me, it looks like a dealer mess-up, and not a manuf. problem.

Unfortunately, since this section is mainly checked by Ibanez USA, they can't really do anything (i.e. send you replacement posts). *
I'll keep diggin' around for ya though.

EDIT- getting rid of the stupid automatic smiley.

I can't believe what I'm reading here. This totally p*sses me off. I want to know why the post on a perfectly new guitar were replaced.... doesn't make any sense, and I feel screwed. I allready had a feeling this was a used guitar, and this only makes me feel that more.

It's not bad otherwise, though. It still is a bloody perfect guitar, but this p*sses me of badly. The guitar was sold to me as beeing a new guitar.

I think I'll also make a call to Ibanez Holland.
