Try and find John Petrucci's rock discipline chromatic exercise somwhere.

Download some Dick Dale and rock out to that.

In the meantime, I'll tab some stuff.

Peace....

I have petrucci's rock discipline video, and I tabbed out a good exercise for alternate picking and string skipping using the major chord shape, plus an added fifth. it sounds very nice when played clean. I can send you the word file if you post an e-mail address. I do this exercise all the time, it's pretty good.

Just remember to lightly hold the pick, and shake your hand, not the fingers that hold the pick! Use my warm up with alternate picking.

...and so on, then do 2345 back down to the low e, then go back up to the high e with 3456, and keep on going up until 12th fret

O yeah, use at least 1mm picks, they will be hard to use at first if you are new to them, but they will make you way faster with time.

sure, I'd be interested. Just e-mail it to the same address that I sent my picking exercise from.

Did that help, btw?

here is an exercise that Paul Gilbert had written in a magazine about 12 years ago.....I found to be very helpful to me:

------------------12-------------------12---12----------------
-------12-13-15----15-13-12-13-15---15---15-13-12------

The exercise is on th E and B strings and is repeated over and over......Don't forget to practice it with a metronome to get it nice and even
